Nemat's Blog

This reading to me was very interesting to me about how life was like back in 1965-1991. Also to think that Marina Nemat was arrested at the age of sixteen years old for speaking out against Ayatollan. To me it is hard to think that you did not have freedom of speech back then and what life was like. I also felt bad for Marina because of how poor she was and the fact that she did not even have enough money to buy books. It was kind of neat seeing how she found stuff she could sell for money and use that money to buy books instead of food. That to me showed how much reading meant to her and how reading helped her stay out of her mothers way growing up. I think she used the dialogue because this story is based off secondhand bookstore. Also this secondhand bookstore helped this little girl at the time reach her dreams to be able to read more books. The secondhand bookstore sounds like it looks dumpy and extremely messy on the outside and the inside and that it is very dark outside. While her friends house looks very nice then Marina's house. By reading the books that she borrowed from the secondhand bookstore helped her see what the Ayatollan was really about. It helped her see how she should feel and what she should stand up for and what not to agree on. The secondhand bookstore seller was like her angel in helping her being able to read a lot more books. The books also helped her learn alot more about the Ayatollan. To me this reading showed me if you really want something in life keep going for it and do not give up on it. Sometimes you have to give up on somethings just to reach that certain goal as well.
